In 2019, Cristal Union finalized an ecodesign project begun in 2017, in partnership with ADEME.
Based on a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), the project looked at our entire production chain, from the field through to packaging. Several areas suitable for ecodesign were assessed in this project: innovative agricultural practices, the production of organic sugar as well as organically-sourced packaging materials.
The project was initially intended to identify areas suitable for ecodesign projects that could reduce the impact of GHG from Daddy sugar by 10%. By combining all of the innovations identified during the project, the overall impact of GHG from our white sugar processed from sugar beet was reduced by 13% compared to the benchmark product.
